Around the Globe on a Urals - Australia Leg
Our globetrotting Ural team has completed the task. As you may recall, Ural enthusiast Sergey Sinelnik embarked upon his dream of going around the world on a Ural back in the winter of 2002, starting from Moscow. Joined at various points throughout the adventure by his brother, Alexander as driver and artist, Vladimir Saygakov as driver and mechanic, Andrey Sarmin as cameraman and Timur Ibatullin as driver, the completed journey has taken him a total of 75,000 km or 46,603 mi, across 5 continents and through 35 countries! Sometimes traveling alone on a "Wolf" or along with the team mates on a "Patrol", the trip was an incredible achievement of both man and machine.
Here are just a few of the incredible photographs that were taken during their final leg of the trip around Australia. Starting from Sydney on April 25, 2004 and finishing on May 19, 2004, they traveled a total of 14,500 km or 10,000 mi. Of that distance, 3,500 km were across the Great Victorian Desert, Gibson Desert and the Great Sand Desert! The team had added a "skeleton" sidecar to the "Wolf" to attack the sands with, as attempting the crossing on only two wheels would have been shear folly. although some of us may think the entire journey may have been a bit "crazy, we salute the guts, determination and success that brought them "Around the Globe on a Ural".
